If you have any appreciation at all for fashion you will notice very quickly that vintage glasses are a hot commodity in Berlin. It’s not just the hipsters either. Berliners love the retro look and the right pair of shades or spectacles are an essential item on most of the faces of the locals.
So with that in mind we have selected a few of the best places to find these oh so cool accessories so you can rock the Berlin look too.
Easily identifiable by the giant sized pair of vintage glasses mounted in a tree in front of the store, Brillenschatz is just a short walk along the canal on Planufer in Kruezberg. UPDATE: Nov 2016 – Brillenschatz have moved to Potsdamer Strasse 79 in Kreuzberg. They have a good selection of frames for men and women as well as sunglasses and a nice collection of buffalo horn and wood glasses. They also have some great extravagant glasses that might make Elton John think twice!
Lunettes is a beloved Berlin store due to its exceptional customer service and its staff’s commitment to finding the perfect frames for every face that walks through the door. Their flagship store is in Torstrasse in Mitte and they also have another store in Prenzlauer Berg with a with kids eyewear collection. Because why wouldn’t you want funky vintage style eyewear for your kids?! For those in the know there is an outlet store in Marienburger Str. These last two stores have specific hours so make sure you check before you go!
Optiking’s store in Eberswalder Strasse is like walking into a small museum. Their collection includes original vintage frames from every decade, going as far back as the 1950’s right through to the 90’s. It’s all very last century but in the best possible way. They have the coolest of sunglasses and great aviators of course as well as some rare finds for the collector.
