Bread&Butter: innovative fashion at iconic former airport

Berlin Fashion Week seems to sprout a new trade fair or two every year. The first addition in 2013 was the Panorama in Schönefeld, which was originally timed to coincide with the opening of the infamous new airport next door but was forced to go ahead without this major transport link following repeated delays and scandals. The second Fashion Week of 2013, which is currently in full swing, saw the arrival of Berlin’s first ever plus-size trade show Curvy is Sexy. But Berlin’s oldest and biggest trade shows, Premium and Bread&Butter still rule the roost.

Last Fashion Week, we visited the Premium, the trade show that specialises in chic, high-end clothes and accessories, and has played an important role in the revival of Berlin’s fashion scene. This time round we decided to visit the Bread&Butter, which is renowned for its innovative selection of street and urbanwear, and, following brief stints in Cologne and Barcelona, is now a permanent fixture of Berlin’s Fashion Week. It is held twice a year at the former airport in Tempelhof, which was built by the Nazis, was the setting for the iconic 1948/9 Berlin Airlift and is now a park and events location. In case you missed it, you can take a look through my pictures of the summer 2013 Bread&Butter below…
