Every year in mid July, Berlin’s tranquil oasis in Dahlem is transformed as the Botanic Gardens host the magical event Botanische Nacht. In 2018 the event celebrates its tenth anniversary and will be held this Friday and Saturday from 5pm. The event is one of Berlin’s highlights in the mid summer calendar as the elegant domed glasshouses are illuminated with light, projections and fireworks, with plenty of entertainment for the whole family.
The gardens are divided into ten different themed sections exploring the idea of ‘the search for the light of nature’. The world of ‘Botania’ is created, with fantasy, drama and a cast of quirky and interesting inhabitants, all featured across the ten sections. There are a variety of events scheduled throughout the event and the details on the website about this are only in German so speak to the concierge if you want to find out more about what might be interesting to see. You could choose from light shows, performance art, fireworks of course and there is always delicious food on hand to eat.
Botanische Nacht opens at 5pm each day and runs through until 2am. The gardens are home to numerous greenhouses (including the Great Pavilion, the largest glass house in the world) with over 22,000 varieties of plant from across the globe, from rainforests to mountains and everything in between.
