Picture the scene: after a tiring day of Christmas shopping among the twinkly festive lights of Ku’damm you return to the warmth of your hotel room, reluctant to venture back out into the Berlin winter chill too soon but in need of an extra little indulgence. The answer: Sofitel’s mangnifique take on afternoon tea, French style.
Consisting of an array of sumptuous afternoon snacks, the Sofitel afternoon tea includes a mixture of sweet and savoury which will stave off your hunger until later in the evening. Presented on a classic tea stand, the first tier consists of a collection of three sandwiches including a very delicious duck and the classic afternoon tea cucumber sandwich.
Working your way up there is also a chai tea panacotta tart (which is delightfully gooey in consistency with a beautiful biscuit base) a yoghurt and cassis macaroon and a slice of chocolatey heaven in the form of a bite sized milk and dark chocolate cake. To top it off are two lovingly made scones, one with raisins and one without, accompanied by clotted cream and apple & almond jam – perfect!
All of this wouldn’t be complete without an adequate tea selection to match, and with around 50 teas to choose from the tea list does not disappoint! Covering all tea types including black, white, green, Oolong and fruit infusions, there is sure to be a new favourite waiting to be discovered. One recommendation for winter is the delectable ‘Almond dreams’, a blend of almond, cinnamon and apple which manages to convey Christmas in a cup. Tea master Nick Paulus is also always on hand to offer his tea expertise and recommendations, each tea sitting beginning with a tea leaf aroma test in order to help guide his suggestions to suit your taste.
A delicate balance between old and new French and English afternoon tea traditions, afternoon tea provides a chance to catch up with either old or new friends, spend time with family or even just take some time out for you during your Berlin stay. The tea comes in two options, petite and grande, and takes place every Friday and Saturday afternoon. We look forward to seeing you soon!
